Kiev: The war between Russia and Ukraine continues. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s top military commander has said that the fighting around Pokrovsk, a major city in eastern Ukraine, has become more fierce after Russia’s continued aggression. Analysts estimate that the Russian army is now just a few kilometers away from the city. The General Staff said in a battlefield report on Thursday that Ukrainian troops foiled about 40 attempts by Russia to attack security forces around Pokrovsk in the past 24 hours.
What did the Ukrainian army chief say?
“The occupying Russians are pushing forward with all their available forces and trying to break through the defenses of our troops,” Ukrainian army chief Gen. Oleksandr Sirsky said in a Facebook post late Wednesday. He added that his forces are outnumbered and that Russian forces are trying to demolish Ukrainian defenses with glide bombs.

Let us tell you that before the Russian attack in February 2022, the population of Pokrovsk was around 60,000. It is seen as a major defensive stronghold of Ukraine. Russia’s occupation here will weaken Ukraine’s defensive capability. A major concern for the Kiev government is that billions of dollars of US military aid to deter Russia may be ended after newly-elected President Donald Trump takes power.
