A major Lohri tragedy in Amritsar: A spark from a bonfire ignites a house; father and disabled daughter die:

Amritsar. An elderly father and his disabled daughter died in a sudden fire in Chuhad Gali, located near Mahna Singh Chowk, under the jurisdiction of Police Station B Division. The cause of the fire is believed to be a spark from a fire lit during Lohri. Seven to eight fire brigade vehicles arrived at the scene immediately after receiving information.

Upon learning of the incident, locals and the police rushed to the scene. Rescue operations began immediately. However, the fire had spread so rapidly that it was difficult to control. The homeowners were resting on the first floor. As soon as the fire broke out, the entire family climbed onto the roof and began shouting.

The family initially tried to extinguish the fire by drawing water from the water tank on the roof. However, the flames were spreading rapidly. The elderly father and his disabled daughter were sleeping on the first floor. However, they were unable to get up quickly enough to escape during the blaze. People present at the scene reported that both died of suffocation.

The fire was brought under control at four in the morning.

Neighbors rescued the other family members from the house via the rooftops. The fire was brought under control by 4 a.m. However, two family members died and suffered financial losses. The affected family has appealed to the government for justice.
