Good news for Vande Bharat Express passengers! You can now purchase food during your journey even if you didn't opt for it while booking your ticket. The Railway Board has issued a new directive instructing the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to provide food to all passengers.

Previously, passengers who hadn't selected the food option during booking were often denied food service onboard. Following numerous passenger complaints, the Railways has taken this step to ensure a more convenient travel experience.

Passengers can now purchase ready-to-eat (RTE) meals as well as freshly cooked food, subject to availability. This change will significantly enhance the travel experience on Vande Bharat trains.

Railway Board Directive:

The Railway Board's order mandates IRCTC to provide food to passengers who did not pre-book meals. The circular explicitly states that arrangements should be made to offer RTE food and cooked food (if available) to both passengers with confirmed bookings and those who did not select the meal option.

Addressing Passenger Complaints:

Railway officials have acknowledged receiving complaints about passengers being denied food service on Vande Bharat trains if they hadn't pre-booked it, even if they were willing to pay. This new directive aims to rectify this issue and ensure all passengers have access to food.

Catering to Onboard Needs:

Officials explained that passengers often don't pre-book meals but may feel hungry during the journey. This change will allow them to access clean and quality food on Vande Bharat trains, making their travel more comfortable.

Emphasis on Hygiene and Quality:

The Railway Board has directed IRCTC to prioritize hygiene and food quality. Food sales will be conducted via trolleys within designated time slots. Vending services will be restricted after 9 pm or after the dinner service is completed.

A Boon for Passengers:

This decision is particularly beneficial for passengers who book tickets at the last minute or who find themselves needing food during their journey. The ability to purchase food onboard will make Vande Bharat travel more convenient and enjoyable.
