According to South Korean intelligence, North Korea test-fired several missiles on Tuesday, succeeding in continuing the arms exhibit prior to Donald Trump resuming the post of US President. The Joint chiefs of staff further asserted that North Korea’s inland north, targeted short range ballistic missiles; and claimed to have used three such missiles. There was, however, no information on how far the weapon remained capable of travelling in North Korea.

Following the knowledge that both the United States and Japan possess, the officials said that the Southern Korea military worked on improving its observation of the regions under suspicion. Just one week later, North Korea revealed the second ballistic launch personally.

North Korea aims to strengthen its nuclear stockpile, according to leader Kim Jong Un’s ambitions, if North Korea fires this missile, including January 6th, its stated range is intermediate but intends to hit targets at a considerable distance in the pacific ocean.

In 2024, alongside testing out new advanced weapons, North korea demonstrated solid intercontinental ballistic missiles that would be used to overwhelm missile defenses in southern Korea.

There is apprehension that Russia may further enhance its military and missile capabilities owing to their convergence during the Ukraine war.

During the end-of-year political conference, Kim said that he will put into practice the “harshest” anti-US measures and also lambasted Biden’s intention of deepening the security bond between Seoul and Tokyo; referring to it as a “nuclear militant construction meant for aggression.”

North Korean state media was not specific on Kim’s policy intentions and did not provide specific remarks regarding Trump. During Trumps first spell in the office, Kim met with him on three occasions concerning the North’s nuclear activities.

Regardless of whether or not Trump is successful in retaking control of the White House, it appears that turning back into normality and extending diplomacy with North Korea will be an arduous task. Experts argue that Kim’s fortified position strengthened by his broadened nuclear arsenal and a growing unity with Russia combined with lack of US enforcement of international sanctions complicates things further in the direction of the nuclear freeze.
