While updating his fitness, the pace bowler disclosed that his ankle is recovering but he wasn’t fit enough to take part in the Champions Trophy 2025. There’s no specific timeline on him gaining full strength, but he also states that taking this leave has helped him significantly. Cummins stated he will begin his practice next week in hopes of being available for selection for the opening game of Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 23 against the Royals. He also suggested that the later-on WTC final and the Ashes could be the main reason why he chose to skip the Champs Trophy to remain in good shape.

The ankle is starting to feel better. It’s an odd one – it isn’t like a hamstring where you will need six weeks to heal. It is one of those where it simply needs rest to calm down. So we ran out of time for Pakistan. It is just one of those things that has to be dealt with. I hope a small break now helps set things up for the next year or so," Cummins told cricket.com.au. Physically, it’s a nice build up for him and Australia for the World Test Championship final, and the Test matches after that. That is the existing goal, so we will see how this progresses. The plan now is to start doing some bowling in a week or so, and he will aim to be ready for the IPL,” he also mentioned. Australian will begin the champions trophy against England on the 22 of February at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore simultaneously, apart from Cummins, Stoinis also announced his retirement after the tournament.
