Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 VR is set to launch in Spring 2025 exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and 3S, as announced by the developers in a recent website post. This marks the first time a game from the renowned Civilization series has been developed specifically for the VR/MR platform. The game is being developed by Australian video game studio PlaySide Studios and published by 2K Games.

In Civilization 7 VR, players can either engage in solo gameplay or participate in competitive online multiplayer matches with up to three other players on Meta Quest 3 and 3S. To access online multiplayer, players will need a stable internet connection, along with both a 2K Account and a Meta account.

Designed specifically for the Meta Quest 3 and 3S, the game features a new interface that allows players to “admire your civilization from any angle or distance, and bring the Command Table into your surroundings with dynamic mixed reality,” as noted in the developers’ announcement.

The VR adaptation enhances immersion, making players feel truly connected to the empire they build and expand. The Meta Quest controllers offer intuitive controls, enabling players to zoom in and out of the world map with ease and efficiently move their units across the landscape. Additionally, the VR/MR experience provides a unique opportunity to stand shoulder to shoulder with historical world leaders at the Command Table, allowing for a more engaging diplomatic experience.

For those eager to play, Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 VR can be wishlisted on Meta’s website. As Spring 2025 approaches, we can expect a confirmed release date. Meanwhile, if VR isn’t your preferred platform, Civilization 7 is also available on PC, Mac, and consoles.
