Visakhapatnam espionage case: The National Investigation Agency’s court in Visakhapatnam has sentenced a couple to five and a half years in prison with a fine of Rs 5,000 each as simple imprisonment for their involvement in the much publicized Navy espionage case linked to Pakistani intelligence agencies. NIA has filed a charge sheet along with an arrest of 15 people that were a part of this case. However, the couple was arrested in December 2019 and June 2020.

In a statement released from NIA, they stated that non-payment of the fine will result in one additional year of imprisonment. According to reports, both of the accused, Abdul Rehman and his wife Shaista Qaiser, are absolved of these additional charges after paying the fine. Fulfilling out other conditions will help them avoid the increase in punishment.

While they escape these additional charges, NIA is already aware that all of the accused of this statement have been in contact with Pakistan Intelligence Operatives which through several social media platforms. These Operatives were employing these individuals to gather confidential intel relating to the Indian Navy bases which they were selling for monetary gain.

NIA has been working round the clock trying to solve the case. The agency suspects that a large network of spies from Pakistan and other hostile forces are operating in India. With this case, NIA is trying to unravel this entire mystery.
