1. Active listening 

Listening is an integral component of communication, particularly within relationships. When your partner speaks, give him or her full attention. Devote your undivided attention to your partner during their time of need because it can help them feel cherished. So when your partner expresses their feelings, instead of cutting them short and responding to them, try to listen and comprehend what they genuinely wish to convey.

2. Express your emotions clearly

Most of the time, people refrain from coming forth with their emotions, and that is how disputes arise. The partner or friend you care for deserves you to articulate yourself candidly, so do not hesitate to voice your thoughts. Do not attempt to guess what others want to hear or how the other person will react to your feelings; use your words instead.

3. Negation is a straight turn off

Arguments can harm the relationship more than it could help it, and saying the wrong thing can only exacerbate the situation. Never attempt to blame or accuse your partner of anything. Avoid phrases like you never understand me or you always do this. Rather, phrase your words in words like I feel this way, which will sound much less threatening in a conversation where the partner stands a chance to get defensive.

These discussions should ideally be in environments where both partners are completely calm and prepared for a mature discussion. It is essential to only communicate during these moments otherwise problems could increase if there is communication during anger or stress.  

5. The feedback and suggestions part must be amended.

Feedback of both kinds is paramount with regard to relationship improvement. If you do not approve of your partner's habits, then rather kindly speak to them about it. In the same way, if your partner has been kind enough to offer you a suggestion, then you should also accept them.  

6. Pay attention to the nonverbal cues

In addition to words, your body language also communicates clearly complex messages. While conversing, inter-personal gaze, smile, and nod in agreement to make the relationship warm. Any negative cues such as eye rolling or irritated responses kill the relationship and distance people apart.
