The legal troubles for former Rajasthan MLA Girraj Malinga have just become much more serious. In a major development that brings a shocking case back into the spotlight, a special SC/ST court has formally framed charges against him.
In simple terms, this means the court has reviewed the preliminary evidence and decided there is a strong enough case to put him on trial for a truly disturbing incident.
This isn't about politics; the case goes back to a violent altercation in March 2022. The accusation is that Malinga, along with several of his associates, brutally assaulted two officials from the electricity department in Dholpur. The victims, an Assistant Engineer named Harshadhipati and a Junior Engineer named Nitin Gulati, were allegedly beaten severely while on duty.
The charges laid out by the court are incredibly serious. They don't just include assault and obstructing public servants from doing their jobs. The list also includes the grave charge of attempted murder (IPC Section 307).
What makes this case even more significant is the caste-based dimension. Because one of the engineers, Harshadhipati, is from the Dalit community, Malinga is also facing charges under the very strict SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. This act is specifically designed to protect Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from discrimination and violence.
For Malinga, who was reportedly present in the courtroom when the charges were read, this marks the official beginning of a full-blown criminal trial. Up until now, the process involved investigations and preliminary hearings. Now, the battle will move to the presentation of evidence and witness testimonies in court.
The case has been a lingering issue for Malinga, who was a Congress MLA at the time of the incident but later joined the BJP. This latest court action ensures that the allegations of the attack on the Dholpur electricity board engineers will be scrutinized under the full force of the law, regardless of his political affiliations.
