In a major administrative shake-up, the Yogi Adityanath government has taken a tough stand following the controversial release of mafia Ravi Kana from Banda Jail. Proving yet again that lapses in the justice system won't be tolerated, the state government has suspended the Jail Superintendent and the Deputy Jailer of Banda Jail.
The move comes just a day after an FIR was registered against high-ranking prison officials for their alleged negligence in the matter.
What Triggered the Action?
Mafia Ravi Kana had been lodged in Banda Jail since August 2024. However, last month, the jail administration authorized his release—a decision that immediately raised eyebrows in the judicial circle. The court questioned how a high-profile prisoner could be set free when a "B-Warrant" (a production warrant) was already active against him.
When the court demanded answers, the situation escalated quickly. Initially, the Jailer, Vikram Singh, was suspended. However, as the investigation deepened, it became clear that the responsibility lay higher up the chain of command.
Senior Officials Under Fire
Following the court's intervention and an official complaint filed by the Jail Outpost In-charge, the Director General of Prisons, PC Meena, issued suspension orders for:
Anil Kumar Gautam (Jail Superintendent)
Nirbhay Singh (Deputy Jailer)
The government hasn't just stopped at suspensions; a full departmental inquiry has been initiated to determine how such a massive blunder occurred. Authorities are looking into whether this was a case of pure administrative negligence or if there was any external influence involved in the release.
Zero Tolerance Policy
The Yogi government has consistently messaged a "Zero Tolerance" policy toward crime and administrative corruption. This latest action serves as a stern warning to officials across the state: any compromise on legal protocols, especially involving gangsters and mafia figures, will result in immediate and severe consequences.
