On Monday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated his firm support for the Waqf Amendment Bill. He addressed the controversy by stating, "Every good work faces opposition," reinforcing his stance in an exclusive interview with PTI.

Adityanath emphasized that the safety and unity of the nation are paramount. He said, “If the nation remains secure, then religion too will be safeguarded,” in response to criticism from parts of the Muslim community opposing the bill.

Calls for Reform and Accountability from the Waqf Board

Responding to objections from religious groups and political opponents, the Chief Minister questioned the Waqf Board’s role. He stated, “To those creating a fuss over this issue, I ask - has the Waqf Board contributed to welfare in any way? Has it even worked for the welfare of Muslims?”

Adityanath alleged misuse of authority and encroachment on government property by the Waqf Board. He emphasized the need for change, saying, “Reform is the demand of the times, and every reform faces resistance.”

The proposed Waqf Amendment Bill has led to protests and sparked debate across the country. Concerns have been raised about potential impacts on minority rights and the status of waqf properties.
