The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has given the green light to a series of major proposals, including a festive bonus of free gas cylinders for millions of families, the establishment of two new universities, and the construction of two new expressways to boost connectivity in the Bundelkhand region.
In a cabinet meeting held on Friday, a total of 22 proposals were approved, signaling a significant push in social welfare, education, and infrastructure.
A Diwali Gift: Free Cylinders for Ujjwala Beneficiaries
One of the headline decisions is the approval of providing two free LPG cylinders annually to beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. The first free cylinder will be distributed between October and December, coinciding with the Diwali festival season. The second free cylinder will be provided between January and March. This move is expected to benefit approximately 1.75 crore families across the state, providing direct relief and support.
A Boost for Higher Education
The cabinet also cleared the path for establishing two new "twin city" state universities. These are:
- Maa Vindhyavasini State University in Mirzapur
- Maa Pateshwari State University in Balrampur
These institutions are intended to improve access to higher education in their respective regions, reducing the need for students to travel to larger cities for their studies.
Expanding Connectivity in Bundelkhand
Infrastructure development received a major push with the approval for the construction of two new link expressways that will connect to the Bundelkhand Expressway.
- Chitrakoot Link Expressway: This project will connect Chitrakoot directly to the Bundelkhand Expressway.
- Jhansi Link Expressway: This will provide a crucial link for Jhansi to the main expressway.
The construction will be carried out by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). These projects are designed to spur economic development, tourism, and industrial growth in the historically underserved Bundelkhand region by providing faster and more efficient transport links.
The range of approvals, from direct household benefits to long-term infrastructure and education projects, highlights the government's multi-pronged approach to development in the state.
