NBA celebrations turn into mourn; gunfire reported from Times Square; 63 arrested rioters

Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : With their first NBA basketball championship win in 53 years, the New York Knicks have made history but the joy over this historical win turned into mourning and chaos within hours.

As the ecstatic crowd was celebrating, there was gunfire report from New York's very popular tourist attraction, Times Square, leading to a stampede. Some people were wounded during the stampede and mayhem. So far, 63 people have been arrested as rioters.

Shooting, stabbing in Times Square.

A clip that was uploaded and went viral on the social media networks showed at least seven shots near Times Square, at 42nd street, at Broadway. An injured 17 year old boy was shot and as no ambulance could get to the boy due to the number of fans present, police took the boy to a hospital with their own patrol vehicle.

Government vehicles set on fire and buses commandeered.

In addition to this, as soon as the New York Knicks' win was announced, fans went berserk. Rioters took on police vehicles and threw sticks and bats at them smashing the windows and setting five police vehicles and five school buses on fire. These school buses were taking spectators to the stadium for the World Cup football matches.

They jumped onto the roofs of these school buses and some even jumped into the driver's seat and created mayhem. Additionally, people climbed onto traffic lights and lamp posts and began to light fire crackers in the middle of the crowd.

Ten police officers injured; 63 arrested.

It is important to mention here that ten policemen were injured in the ensuing riots while they were trying to manage the situation. One was punched in the face and another was hit by a glass bottle. New York Police confirmed 63 people have been arrested so far as it was needed to manage the situation and have been charged with some heinous crimes, including assault on police, unlawful possession of weapons, rioting etc.
