Pakistan's Supreme Court is set to hear the bail appeals of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on August 12, 2025. These appeals challenge the Lahore High Court's refusal to grant him bail in eight separate cases related to the violence that erupted on May 9, 2023, following his arrest at the Islamabad High Court premises. The Lahore High Court had rejected his bail requests, citing concerns about his alleged involvement in planning attacks on military installations during that unrest.
The Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and comprising Justices Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui and Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb, will take up the case after a previous hearing was postponed on July 29 due to the absence of Khan's lead counsel. Imran Khan, aged 72, faces multiple cases in Lahore related to the May 9 violence, including accusations that he incited his supporters to attack government and military buildings.
This hearing will determine whether Imran Khan will be granted relief from jail or continue to remain in custody amid these charges. The nation's attention is focused on the Supreme Court's decision on this politically sensitive matter.
