A tantric was also murdered a year ago due to similar suspicion.

In another such incident, about a year ago, a tantric was allegedly murdered due to superstition in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, the murder of whom was unearthed on May 20 by the Maharajganj Kotwali police, and one culprit apprehended; on investigation, it was found that the suspect had taken the life of the tantric for his son and the weapon, an iron pipe, was recovered.

The Superintendent of Police (SP) Shakti Mohan Awasthi, along with the ASP and CO Sadar, revealed at the police station auditorium on Wednesday the facts behind the tantric's murder. The victim, Ramakant Chauhan, lived in Pipra Rasulpur village in the Kotwali area and practiced exorcism and mantra, besides having ties with the culprit's family. Ramakant had requested a loan of two lakh rupees from the culprit in January, and when his pleas went unheeded, he threatened him. His son was then involved in a road accident on Shivratri; after visiting many astrologers and exorcists, he became convinced that his son had been murdered through witchcraft by Ramakant and then went on to kill the latter.
