With West Bengal set to get a new cultural icon, Digha Jagannath Temple will be inaugurated by the current CM of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, on Akshaya Tritiya, April 30, 2025.
Located Near Digha Railway Station, The temple is built using architectural styles from Puri Jagannath temple and covers an area of 22 acres.
Dedicated to the Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra, the temple's construction began after it got ₹250 crore in funds from the state and will be completely funded by the west Bengal government.
The temple is also governed by a trustee board composed of ISKCON, Sanatan Dharm, and local priests.
Features of the event include:
Whole state will be watching the ceremony live via screens set up in every block.
Celebrities at the event include Jeet Gannguli, Aditi Munshi, Dona Ganguli and many others.
In addition to cultural performances, there is an industrialist meet section where various business leaders are invited at the Digha Convention Centre.
The event will also have 3 Hangar for visitors:
First will be a main section with podium for performances that can hold a max of 6,000 people.
The second and third Hangars will provide 4,000 and 2,000 overflow seating respectfully and both have display screens for ease of viewing.
Center mounred advertiser will also be set up to give live feedback during the show.
Facilities for Devotees: Entails rest areas, police check post, guest accommodation, and fire services.
Moreover, women’s self-help groups from the region will be allocated the opportunity to advertise their traditional products at the temple.
Rituals and Crowd Management
Religious Schedule: To perform a yagya on April 29. On April 30 from 3:00 PM to 3:10 PM, pran pratishtha will follow, and subsequently there will be an idol consecration along with formal inauguration of the temple.
Carpeted no footwear paths, temporary camps, and green vehicles for the elderly will be provided for Accessibility & Safety Measures.
Security Setup:
Watchtowers alongside heavy police presence.
Digha to Kolaghat will have CCTV surveillance.
Avoidance of congestion will be made possible through multiple entry/exit gates.
Bengal CM’s Prioritization of Public Interests
Mamata Banerjee has opened barring of VIPs for access in order to prioritize common citizens to visit peacefully. Personally, Mamata has said she will donate 5 lakh and 1 rupee to make the first golden broom that will be used in the Rath Yatra later this year.
From april 27 and pertain to remaining days in Digha, additional ministers with include Snehashish Chakraborty, Firhad Hakim, Aroop Biswas, and Pulak Roy will be stationed in Digha to monitor preparations and respond to the ground.
Political Overtones and Opposition Response
In addition to being a religious event, analysts consider it a calculated move by Mamata Banerjee to establish a greater connection with Hindu voters. Opponent head Suvendu Adhikari has also claimed that the state government has turned religion into a political matter. As a countermeasure, Adhikari declared a concurrent ‘Sanatani Yatra’ in Kanthi on the very same day.
