The Salt Lake campus of WBSSC was jam-packed with more than 2000 teachers protesting against the commission over the annulment of their appointments by the Supreme Court just a fortnight ago. Regardless of soaring temperatures, the agitators have pledged to stay put until the indefinite demands.
In their April 3 submission, the supreme court pointed out the 2016 recruitment of 26,000 teaching and non teaching posts for devolved school services inducted for schools was mired with bungles, over-filling positions creating staffs. This was triggered by protests accusing WBSSC of stuffing lists with non-standard applicants and demanding the release of two lists, one containing alleged trophies and the other one devoid of hired mercenaries.
Defiant Demonstration at WBSSC Office
The blockade of the whole operating system of the WBSSC was caused by people who claim to have spend decades inside classrooms. All external doors and windows are sealed. Mr. Majumdar has been served his evening meal inside. He has been commandeered from the building.
Passions are so extremely volatile in this weather that these words may trigger.
Democrats once upon a decade gently teased, enduring joyful vows waiting pouring forward on forward poured emptiness from motivation-less governments promises. Along with it goes the standard motto for a lot of things varying on the vague list of reasoning for enabling and disabling essential programs like grand deceit, citizens, solutions provide half even, and constructatures devoid of even remote selfgap thinking enabling multi-expression devoid scarce advanced ideologies.
Calls for Greater Responsibility and Openness
Their primary request is to make a transparent merit list distinguishing between deserving and non-deserving appointees. The commission had initially committed itself to publishing this list by April 21 but did not do it which caused further outrage.
A group of eight teachers who participated in the meeting for discussions are said to be on hunger strike inside the building, apparently lacking adequate provisions. In the meantime, some of the demonstrators have experienced heat exhaustion, and at least one woman fainted but insisted on remaining until her demands are fulfilled.
Blasts from the Demonstrations
Somebody needed a mic to capture the voice of this distressed former teacher from out of nowhere: “So, just like that, I’m ‘undeserving’ after serving for seven years? With my daughter needing constant kidney treatment, how am I supposed to take care of her now?”
An additional protest participant said, “Our stance shall not yield until justice is delivered. We have abandoned the belief in unrealized expectations.”
Steps Taken by Government According to Their Legal Claims
Bratya Basu, the State Education Minister, has been canvassing teachers to hold on while the state submits a review petition to the Supreme Court. He also advised claiming that there is counsel against publicizing the merit list because it risks legal contempt.
Siddhartha Majumdar, as WBSSC Chairman, said in a statement that the commission would obey the Supreme Court directives on payment and make provision for the teachers who made the services. But no explanation or deadline was given concerning when the list of tainted and untainted candidates would be published.
Political and Public Responses
BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay blamed the Education Minister for creating false impressions for teachers. He stated that determining who among the armed forces of the state court is within the bounds of their command is not transgressing the law and urged the demonstrators to maintain the nonviolent nature of the protests.
The West Bengal Junior Doctors Front, most recently active in the 2024 RG Kar hospital case, has also joined the band of supporting teachers and has promised to advocate for them.
