A state transport bus was damaged on the first day of 'free movement' in Manipur.

Violence ruled on the first day of The Centre's free movement rule, likely due to a long-anticipated factioning of the region after calming for nearly 2 years. On a Saturday, they premised it on allowing unrestricted travel the state.

The Centre’s announcement was made clear: the North Eastern state was under the president rule post Chief Minister N. Biren Singh's recent resignment. However, fresh blockades and barricades were still caused by hill district opposition groups unhappy with the free movement proposition.

The SPS bus was attacked in Kangpokpi when people began using the Imphal hill area buses after the suspension due to riots.

The mob that damaged the bus near Senapati district in the Kangpokpi Gamgiphai region resorted to stone-pelting on the bus.

An NDTV report suggested that the Kuki tribes opposed the bus In a bid to avoid unrestricted travel until their goal of a separate administration division is Grantham accedeed to.

Injuries occurred amongst the demonstrators afterwards as security forces sprang into action in the form of tear gas shells and batons.

Without any passengers, the buses towards hill districts of Senapati and Churachandpur left Imphal Airport at 10 A.M. central forces including army men covered the roads in advance. There were plenty of central forces that escorted the busses.

According to the official’s report, the bus towards Churachandpur went through Boshnupur district with no problems so it was able to reach Kangvai.

Public discomfort and the releasement of normalcy was the reason stated for the reinstatement of the state transport bus services.

As per Report from news 18, this follows after Union home minister Amit Shah ordered that all routes in Manipur be opened to citizens from the 8th of March, commanding security forces to allow free movement of people while also directing strong measures to be taken against anyone causing blockades.

In the meeting conducted to assess the reoccurring security problems that persist in Manipur, he commented that there is full focus of the government on these issues and that all necessary provisions are made to resolve the state permanently.

During the meeting in which the prime minister’s governing faction took control of the Northeast state, he ordered that all violence be ceased. This was the first meeting held after President's rule was established due to ongoing ethnic violence since May 2023 which has killed more than 250 people.

In December, the state government tried to restart the bus services from Imphal to Kangpokpi and Churachandpur, but the attempt failed because no passengers turned up at the Manipur State Transport (MST) bus station in Moirangkhom, Imphal.
