Considered the most auspicious month in the Hindu calendar for Lord Vishnu devotees, Vaishakh Maah begins April 3. Learn how early morning rituals and specific donations can transform your life.
Following the conclusion of Chaitra, the second month of the Hindu lunar calendar Vaishakh is set to begin on April 3, 2026. According to the Skanda Purana, no other month is as meritorious as Vaishakh for performing penance, charity, and holy baths. Devotees believe that observing rituals during this month is equivalent to performing a grand Yajna.
Auspicious Dates and Timing
As per the Panchang, the Pratipada Tithi (the first day) starts on April 2 at 7:42 AM and concludes on April 3 at 8:43 AM. Based on the Udaya Tithi, the month of Vaishakh will officially commence tomorrow, April 3, and will conclude with the Purnima (Full Moon) on May 1.
The Spiritual Significance: Why Vaishakh is Special
Dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu, Vaishakh is a period of intense spiritual cleansing. A famous verse from the Skanda Purana states:
"Na Vaishakha samo maaso na kritam samam tapah..." (There is no month equal to Vaishakh, no penance equal to it, and no water as holy as the Ganges.)
Legend has it that King Mahiratha attained Vaikuntha Dham (the abode of Vishnu) simply by observing the holy bath rituals during this month.
Essential Rituals: What to Do (Dos)
To attract prosperity and peace, follow these recommended practices:
Brahma Muhurta Bath: Wake up before sunrise to bathe in a holy river or pond. If at home, mix a few drops of Ganga Jal in your bucket.

Summer Donations: Donate hand fans, seasonal fruits like melons, food grains, and umbrellas to the needy.
Evening Lamp (Diya): Light a ghee lamp near the Tulsi plant every evening to please Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu.
Sattvic Lifestyle: Practice celibacy and consume simple, freshly cooked food once a day if possible.
Prohibitions: What to Avoid (Don’ts)
To maintain the sanctity of the month, avoid these activities:
Non-Sattvic Food: Strictly avoid meat, alcohol, and any form of intoxication.
Sleeping Habits: Avoid sleeping during the daytime as it is considered inauspicious.
Physical Habits: Refrain from oil massages on the body during this period.
Utensils: Avoid eating in bronze (Kansa) utensils.
Luxury: Avoid eating late at night or sleeping on high, luxurious beds; stay grounded and disciplined.
