The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts in Rajasthan as a powerful weather system is set to disrupt the rising summer heat with unseasonal rain and thunder.
Jaipur, April 2026 Residents of Rajasthan are in for a dramatic shift in weather this week. After a brief spell of rising temperatures, the Meteorological Center, Jaipur, has predicted a fresh wave of instability across the state. A potent New Western Disturbance is expected to activate, bringing a mix of severe dust storms, lightning, and even hailstorms to various regions until April 7, 2026.
The Weather Forecast: What to Expect?
According to the latest bulletin, the influence of the Western Disturbance will be felt most strongly in the western and northern parts of the state.
Dust Storms & High-Speed Winds: Gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h are likely to sweep through the desert districts, significantly reducing visibility.
Rain and Thunder: Light to moderate rainfall is predicted for several areas, providing temporary relief from the heat but posing a risk to standing crops.
Hailstorm Alert: Some pockets in the Bikaner and Jodhpur divisions may witness hailstorms, which could impact the agricultural harvest currently underway.
Affected Districts: Yellow Alert Issued
The IMD has placed several districts under a Yellow Alert, advising citizens to stay cautious. The most affected areas are likely to include:
Western Rajasthan: Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner, and Jodhpur.
Northern & Eastern Regions: Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu, and parts of the Shekhawati region (Sikar, Jhunjhunu).
Impact on Agriculture and Temperature
While the rain will bring the mercury down by 3–5 degrees Celsius, providing a cool respite for urban dwellers, it is a cause of concern for farmers. With the harvesting season in full swing, sudden rain and hail can damage crops like cumin and mustard that are yet to be processed.
Safety Advisory: The administration has advised people to avoid standing under trees or near electric poles during the storms. Travelers on highways are urged to pull over if visibility drops due to rising sand and dust.
As the system moves across North India, the weather in Rajasthan is expected to remain volatile for the next 4–5 days, with a gradual clearing predicted only after April 7.
