'Vidyut Sakhis' set a new record by collecting electricity bills worth over ₹3,562 crore: Keshav Prasad Maurya
Under the leadership and guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (UPSRLM) is emerging as a robust model of women's empowerment and rural self-reliance. The 'Vidyut Sakhi' campaign, launched to provide new livelihood opportunities to rural women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs), has achieved unprecedented success in the field of electricity bill collection. This initiative not only provides women with dignified employment and a regular income but also offers rural consumers the convenience of paying their electricity bills right at their doorsteps.
Shri Maurya stated that the Vidyut Sakhi program is a significant step towards the economic and social empowerment of rural women. It is boosting women's earnings and strengthening the financial condition of their families, while also enhancing the respect and trust accorded to women in society. He added that the women members of Self-Help Groups are playing a pivotal role in effectively implementing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of 'women-led development' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) in Uttar Pradesh.
Electricity Bill Collection Exceeding ₹3,562 Crore
The Vidyut Sakhi program, driven by the convergence between the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation and the State Rural Livelihood Mission, has achieved remarkable success. Mission Director Shri Arun Kumar stated that since the program's inception, 16,021 active 'Vidyut Sakhis' have collected electricity bills amounting to over ₹3,562 crore. By successfully collecting more than 1.55 crore bills, these Vidyut Sakhis have earned commissions totaling over ₹46 crore.
