Agreement signed between UPSRLM and IIM Lucknow at the initiative of Keshav Maurya; includes 18 months of mentoring and market-linkage support
The Deputy Chief Minister stated that the economic empowerment of women is his top priority. Women associated with self-help groups possess the capacity to run enterprises and the drive to work hard. What they need is access to proper training, technical knowledge, markets, and capital. The government’s objective is for rural women to go beyond merely earning a livelihood; it aims for them to become successful entrepreneurs who can, in turn, provide employment to others.
Taking a dig at the working style of previous administrations, Mr. Maurya remarked that, in the past, a policy of "80 out of every 100 [units of resources] for 'us'" (implying corruption or misappropriation) was prevalent. In contrast, the current "double-engine" government ensures that 100 percent of the funds intended for the poor reach their bank accounts directly. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the benefits of various schemes are reaching the eligible beneficiaries directly. The government’s priority is to ensure that the poor and women receive the full benefit of the funds allocated for them.
Expert guidance to be provided for 18 months
This program, conducted under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) of the Union Ministry of Rural Development, will include 150 women-led enterprise units associated with self-help groups. Over a period of 18 months, these units will receive support in the form of expert mentoring, business management, digital training, market linkages, and compliance-related assistance. Additionally, they will be supported in gaining access to formal credit. Within the program, 18 outstanding enterprises will be provided with grants through a 'challenge fund,' while the remaining 132 enterprises will be eligible to receive interest-free loans through Community-Level Federations (CLFs).
