Up Heatwave Alert : The Indian meteorological department (IMD) earlier reported that a heatwave is currently persisting over Uttar Pradesh, with prominent areas like Prayagraj recording the highest temperature of around 44.3°C. IMD has also warned of an aggravating heatwave in 35 districts estimating a further increase of temperatures by 3-5 degrees across the state in the coming days, which means many areas could possibly reach 44°C.

Change in Forecast Warning: From Orange to Yellow Alerts

The latest update from IMD has conveyed an orange alert for intense heat to be imposed on eastern districts of UP. Districts like Ghazipur, Ballia, Varanasi, and Chandauli may overheat in the coming weeks as well. On the contrary, yellow alerts are said to take effect in Kanpur, Auraiya, Banda, and Jhansi.

Looking Ahead Within the Coming Days

IMD has forewarned state residents that notable rises in temperatures are expected, and the rest of the week seems to be rather warm with nights not being an exception. However, with the addition of a new western disturbance approaching the Himalayan range on 24 April, state residents may get a slight relief from extreme conditions.

Lucknow: 41.4°C as Maximum and 25.4°C as Minimum, AQI: 237

Varanasi: 43.4°C as Maximum and 25.0°C as Minimum, AQI: 142

Kanpur: 44.0°C as Maximum and 28.4°C as Minimum, AQI: 144

Meerut: 39.1°C as Maximum and 20.1°C as Minimum, AQI: 246

Severe Heat in Prayagraj and Neighboring Districts

With temperatures soaring above 44°C, Prayagraj is currently the most hot city in UP; this has been reported to severely disrupt daily activities. From Varanasi, Kanpur, and even Hamirpur, similar reports of extreme condition have also been received.

Public Advisory

Residents of Uttar Pradesh are advised to take every safety measure to prevent heatstroke as well as dehydration. The already high temperature is predicted to remain this way day and night.
