In a noteworthy development, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray and his distant kinsman and rival, Raj Thackeray, the leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), are willing to reconcile for the advancement of Maharashtra. Uddhav, while addressing party followers, remarked on a comment made by Raj during a recent podcast which seems to suggest that he is ready to explore collaboration.  

“I am willing to come together for the sake of Maharashtra. There are no personal grievances. There are disputes, but I am willing to set them aside,” Uddhav noted. Raj also shared similar thoughts: “If the people of Maharashtra wish to see us come together, then it should rain. I do not let ego stand in the way of the well-being of Maharashtra.”  

A Chronicle of Betrayal and Unfulfilled Potential  

The two fell out when they started having differences, which is also the reason why Raj founded MNS in 2006. There have been numerous attempts at reconciliation since then, including one in 2017, none of which managed to establish an alliance. Still, this exchange offers the most hope of convergence between the cousins in almost two decades.

What May Have Caused The Change?  

1. Political Self-Interest  

There are challenges for both the parties:  

Shiv Sena (UBT)- only 20 out of 95 post-polling assembly seats fracishly contested were won by the faction of Uddhav. MNS struggled to gain traction of recently in the assembly elections alongside also serving time in the Political sidelines during the Phase 1 of both major alliances of MVA and Mahayuti therefore is left with no seized.  

The unity of these two powers may grossly increase the political relevance and importance served with both parties.  

2. Growing Sentiment Towards Marathi Identity  

Hike towards Marathi sentiments to defend the mandatory dealing of Hindi as a third language in Marathi coursed rekangles the franchise. Both parties are motivated to follow the momentum and further support and agitate for Marathi identity.  

3. BMC Elections And Strategic Approach  

The discussion serves as a politically convenient alliance striking the most important note of BMC elections. An approximate 30-35 percent of politician's hopes who speak Marathi . There is buzz towards an impact from these votes for the leaders thus swelling their standing in BMC contempo polls in comeback because the ratio of voters is swiftly close to 70 percent as Marathi is the dominating langue spoken in the region.
