U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on Sunday that his administration is dealing with four different groups pertaining to the sale of the Chinese-owned social media platform TikTok, and that all options were favorable.
Since The United States placed restrictions on Chinese-based social-media company ByteDance in 2020, attempting to limit TikTok's growth due to security loopholes, the company has been in flux. After signing an agreement into law on January 19 to place a national security ban against the company or force them to sell, Trump has delayed enforcing the law until March.
Trump spoke to reporters on Air Force One, saying that he was pleased with progress the government has made towards a potential deal, elaborating that, “It could," happen soon.
“Everyone wants to buy it.. We're moving forward with the four groups. All four are good," Trump added.
The media branch of ByteDance or TikTok have chosen not to respond to comments made around the legislation, as they likely do not have an official statement.
Despite internal issues within TikTok, it continues to gain market attention with new potential buyers. Business insiders predict the value of the company to reach upwards of $50 billion.
