Here are five foods to avoid if you have piles:
1. Spicy Foods
Hot spices like red chilies, black pepper, and garam masala tend to cause an upset stomach. Those experiencing piles may also have some rectal inflammation, which needs to be checked as it will increase risk for bleeding during bowel movement.
2. Processed and Junk Foods
These include pizza, pasta, and chips as they have little to no fiber content. These snacks will encourage slow digestion which in turn will worsen constipation along with putting unnecessary stress on anal veins. They are also very salty and filled with unhealthy fats that promote inflammation.
3. Alcohol and Caffeinated Drinks
Drinks like coffee and energy drinks, along with alcohol, will cause dehydration. Alongside the irritation in the bowel lining caused by alcohol, dehydration leads to hardening of stools which raises pain and bleeding.
4. Red Meat and Fried Foods
These foods are slow to digest, and often over seasoned unhealthy fats. This poor digestion will lead to constipation alongside increased strain during bowel movement will raise risk of bleeding in people with piles.
5. Refined Grains and White Bread
Products with refined carbohydrates like white rice, white bread, and even maida, have a very low fiber content. These carbohydrates are difficult to digest and may even lead to constipation. Symptoms can be alleviated with whole grain foods such as oats, brown rice, and whole wheat.
