As the sun begins to get harsher and summer sets in, the biggest worry for most people in Jharkhand is water. We’ve all seen it a village or a colony depending on a single handpump, only for it to break down right when you need it most.

The Jharkhand government has finally stepped up to fix this. In a major move to ensure no one goes thirsty this season, the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department has launched a dedicated Toll-Free Helpline Number.

How Does It Work? It’s surprisingly simple. If a handpump in your area is broken, you don't need to run after local officials or wait for months. You just dial the helpline. Once you register a complaint, the department sends a "Mobile Repairing Team" directly to the spot. These teams are equipped with tools and spare parts to fix the pump on the go.

The Scale of the Project This isn't just for a few towns. The government has identified nearly 5 lakh handpumps across the state that need maintenance. To make this work, the department has divided the state into zones, ensuring that a repair van is never too far from a complaining citizen.

The "Control Room" Watch To make sure these calls aren't just ignored, a central control room has been set up at the state headquarters. They track every complaint from the moment the call is received until the technician uploads a photo of the repaired pump.

Why This Matters For many in rural Jharkhand, a working handpump is the difference between life and death during the peak of May and June. By launching this helpline, the government is trying to bridge the gap between the common man and the administration. So, if your neighborhood pump is gathering rust or failing to draw water, it’s time to pick up the phone!
