Suspense crime, Digital Desk : As tensions continue to flare across the Middle East, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his diplomatic outreach to Europe, reiterating his strong call for peace in a conversation with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides. Emphasizing his now-famous doctrine, Modi stressed that "this is not an era of war" and that sustained dialogue is the only path forward.
The high-level phone call comes at a critical time, following Iran's recent retaliatory drone and missile attack on Israel. That attack was a response to a suspected Israeli strike on an Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, which has pushed the volatile region closer to a wider conflict.
In his discussion with President Christodoulides, PM Modi voiced his deep concern over the escalating hostilities. He advocated for immediate de-escalation and a swift return to the path of diplomacy to prevent the conflict from spiraling further. This message echoes the one he delivered just days earlier in a direct conversation with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, where he also urged "utmost restraint."
A key point of concern for the Prime Minister was the safety and security of Indian citizens living and working in the region. Beyond the immediate crisis, the two leaders also took the opportunity to review the bilateral relationship between India and Cyprus, reaffirming the long-standing and warm ties between the two nations.
The call underscores India's proactive diplomatic posture on the global stage, positioning itself as a voice of moderation and consistently advocating for peaceful resolution over military confrontation.
