In a candid revelation, Smriti Irani, who immortalized the character of Tulsi Virani, disclosed that the primary reason behind the sequel's indefinite postponement wasn't a lack of readiness or enthusiasm from her end. In fact, the set for the second season was already built at Balaji House back in 2004, and Smriti herself was fully prepared to step back into Tulsi’s shoes.
The decisive factor, according to Irani, was producer Ekta Kapoor's uncanny 'gut feeling.' Despite the advanced preparations, Ekta reportedly told Smriti, "Let’s not do it now." Smriti, having immense faith in Ekta's intuition, agreed without question. Ekta further elaborated that her preferred director, Ashish Sharma, wasn't available at the time. More profoundly, Ekta felt that a sequel needed significant 'newness' and 'different storytelling' to truly resonate, rather than just cashing in on past success.
This wasn't the first time Ekta Kapoor’s foresight played a crucial role in the show's journey. Smriti also reminisced about the challenges faced by the original 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.' Initially, Star Plus was hesitant to greenlight it as a weekly show, pushing for a daily soap format instead. It was Ekta Kapoor’s persistent conviction and negotiation that ultimately led to the show being approved, eventually becoming the game-changer it was.
