Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Broadway’s brightest stars gathered at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the 77th Annual Tony Awards, a dazzling celebration of the 2023-2024 theatre season. Hosted for the third consecutive time by the charismatic Ariana DeBose, the evening was filled with emotional speeches, show-stopping performances, and landmark victories.
The night’s biggest honors were split between two vastly different productions. "The Outsiders," the gritty and heartfelt adaptation of the classic S.E. Hinton novel, clinched the coveted award for Best Musical. However, the night’s most decorated production was "Stereophonic," a compelling play by David Adjmi about a 1970s rock band on the verge of stardom, which earned an impressive five Tony Awards, including the top prize for Best Play.
The ceremony saw long-awaited victories for several Hollywood stars making their mark on Broadway. Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff both won their first-ever Tonys for their roles in the celebrated revival of "Merrily We Roll Along," which also won for Best Revival of a Musical. On the dramatic side, Sarah Paulson took home the award for Best Actress in a Play for her powerful performance in "Appropriate," while Jeremy Strong won Best Actor in a Play for "An Enemy of the People."
The evening was also punctuated by unforgettable musical moments, including a powerful performance of "Empire State of Mind" by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, whose musical "Hell's Kitchen" was a major contender.
