Amit Gupta, the regional head for Qatar and Kuwait at Tech Mahindra, has reportedly been in custody of the Qatari State Security since January 1, 2025. He is under investigation for alleged data theft, according to media reports. Gupta, originally from Vadodara, Gujarat, has been working in the IT industry for over a decade and was responsible for leading Tech Mahindra’s enterprise business in Qatar and Kuwait for the last three years.

Tech Mahindra Offers Support Amid Ongoing Detention

In a statement to Moneycontrol, a Tech Mahindra spokesperson said, “We remain in close contact with the family, providing necessary support to them. We are also actively coordinating with authorities in both countries and adhering to the due process.” The company emphasized that Gupta’s wellbeing is a top priority and they are committed to ensuring he receives the necessary assistance during this difficult period.

Family Appeals for High-Level Intervention

Gupta’s wife, Akanksha Gupta, has appealed to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for diplomatic intervention in the matter. Meanwhile, his father, Jagdish Gupta—retired from ONGC—has reached out to Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra, urging for support in securing his son's release.

Reports state that Amit was held in solitary confinement and his family, who traveled to Qatar post-detention, were only allowed one brief 30-minute meeting with him during their month-long stay.

Diplomatic and Legal Channels Engaged

The case has brought attention to the need for diplomatic support in international legal matters involving Indian professionals abroad. With both the Indian and Qatari authorities involved, further developments are awaited as Tech Mahindra and Gupta’s family continue to push for justice and clarity.
