Suspense crime, Digital Desk : South African selectors announced a 15-man squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at Lord's, commencing June 11. The squad welcomes back Ngidi, who last played a Test in August 2024, and last season's key performer Dane Paterson.
Kagiso Rabada, embroiled in controversy for a recent positive test for a banned substance, still retains his position. Corbin Bosch’s fairytale run continues following a brilliant debut, while Anrich Nortje, Gerald Coetzee, and Nandre Burger have been omitted.
Someone Had to Go
Gerald Coetzee, arguably the most noticeable omission from the squad, captured 14 wickets in four Tests at 23.57.
Anrich Nortje has chosen to abstain from Test cricket, rejecting a CSA contract in order to prioritize franchise leagues.
Nandre Burger has taken 14 wickets in three Tests at 16.92 but has yet to make his mark in the international arena.
Paterson and Bosch Add More Options in the Bowing Department
Dane Paterson was the leading wicket taker last summer – 13 wickets at 16.92 in four Tests – with Paterson currently representing Middlesex and training at Lords.
Corbin Bosch stunned the world with an incredible performance in the Test match when he took a wicket with his first delivery and scored an incredible 81, winning the match and allowing South Africa to progress into the World Test Championship finals.
Warm-Up Activities And Clash With IPL
The squad is expected to come together to Arundel on May 31 where they will play a warm-up fixture against Zimbabwe from June 3-6. However, eight squad members including Bosch, Ngidi, Rabada, Jansen, Markram, Mulder, Stubbs, and Rickelton are participating in the IPL which ends on 3rd June.
