Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Sonali Bendre, the renowned actress of Hum Saath Saath Hain and Sarfarosh remembered how the beauty standards of the film industry during the 1990s did not cater to her. Expressing her struggles from the past, she ‘candidly’ talked about how things used to be.  

“In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Sonali admitted rather modestly that she was never truly considered a ‘90s IT girl’, which surely stands as a ‘controversial’ statement.”  

Sonali went on to discuss the film industry’s craze for fuller women with thick, curly hair while she was simply a lanky girl with straight hair. “There were girls with beautiful, bouncy curls; I was a skinny, straight-haired, lanky girl. Hindi films didn’t like that.”

Sonali also shared the difficulties she encountered with styling her hair, which is naturally straight. “Since I had a lot of hair, I chose to leave it straight because curling it was a challenge.”  

Career Breakthrough and Recognition  

Even though Sonali did not meet the first expectations set for her, she was the first Indian to receive widespread acclaim for her acting chops and screen charisma. Her acting career started off when she debuted in Aag (1994) opposite Govinda at 19 years old. She found her breakthrough in 1996 with roles in Diljale alongside Ajay Devgn and English Babu Desi Mem featuring Shah Rukh Khan.  

Success Beyond Hindi Cinema  

Telugu Cinema also welcomed Sonali Bendre with open arms. She starred in several successful films such as Indra, Khadgam, and Manmadhudu. These performances of hers over multiple film industries cemented her reputation as a multi-faceted and highly regarded actress.  

Return to Screen with Acclaimed Digital Debut  

Sonali received warm reviews for her performance in The Broken News, which made her digital debut a success. She later on had a cameo in Remo D'Souza's film starring Abhishek Bachchan called Be Happy.

While her next endeavor remains undisclosed, Sonali Bendre is still a darling of the industry. She has maintained a permanent place in the hearts of the audience and upcoming stars because of her grit, charm, and enduring presence in the industry.
