Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Mumbai, India – A high-profile government event in Mumbai has ignited a major political firestorm, with the opposition accusing the Maharashtra government of "shocking extravagance" after it was revealed that attendees were served meals worth ₹5,000 per person on silver dinner plates.

The controversy surrounds the 'Mumbai Conclave 2025', an event hosted by the state government and attended by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, his deputies Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, along with various dignitaries and officials.

The opposition, led by state Congress chief Nana Patole, has slammed the government for what it calls a gross misuse of public funds. Patole highlighted the stark contrast between the lavish feast and the ongoing struggles faced by the state's farmers.

"At a time when farmers in Maharashtra are in deep distress, the government is indulging in such wasteful expenditure," Patole stated, questioning the administration's priorities. "This is taxpayer money being squandered on a five-star feast."

Reports detailing the opulent menu and service have further fueled the outrage. It is alleged that the multi-course meal was served on expensive silverware, a detail that has become a symbol of the government's perceived disconnect from the common citizen's reality.

The controversy has now put the state government on the defensive, forcing it to justify the expenditure for the high-profile conclave, which was intended to showcase the state's progress and attract investment. However, the optics of the silver-platter dinner have provided potent ammunition to the opposition, turning the event into a political liability and sparking a wider debate about fiscal prudence and government priorities.
