Big news is swirling around the IPL! It looks like Sri Lankan cricket legend Kumar Sangakkara might be stepping into Rahul Dravid's shoes at the Rajasthan Royals. Reports suggest that the franchise is already deep into planning for the 2025 season, and this potential change at the helm is a major talking point.

What We're Hearing:

According to some media reports, Kumar Sangakkara, who currently serves as Rajasthan Royals' Director of Cricket, could be taking on an even bigger role. There's chatter that he might replace Rahul Dravid as the team's head coach. This move would be interesting, especially with the mega auction for IPL 2025 just around the corner.

Rahul Dravid, currently the head coach for the Indian national team, has a history with the Royals. He led the team to the Champions League Twenty20 final in 2013 and also coached them. After Dravid left the IPL, he transitioned into coaching roles with India A and the U-19 team, eventually becoming the national team's head coach. His contract with the BCCI is set to expire after the T20 World Cup in 2024. If he doesn't extend it, it opens up possibilities for him.

Sangakkara, on the other hand, joined the Royals as Director of Cricket in 2021. He's been instrumental in building the current squad, working closely with captain Sanju Samson. His tenure has seen the team perform well, including reaching the IPL final in 2022.

The speculation also suggests that the Royals' management is looking for someone who can actively participate in the auction process and then continue with the team throughout the season. Given Sangakkara's existing relationship and understanding of the franchise, he seems like a natural fit for an expanded role. The franchise is reportedly keen on getting their core team in place well before the 2025 mega auction.

While nothing is officially confirmed yet, the possibility of Sangakkara taking charge as head coach is definitely generating a lot of excitement among Royals fans and IPL followers alike.
