Suspense Crime,Digital Desk Flight Delays: The capital's airport faced severe weather on Friday. Thunderstorms and high-speed winds led to a delay of over 500 flights. Furthermore, 3 flights were forced to change their air routes. An official claimed that two flights that were supposed to land at Delhi airport were redirected to Jaipur and Ahmedabad. Strong winds with showers lashed Delhi around the morning. In PTI's news, the storm wreaked havoc as a building collapsed claiming the life of a woman along with three children. There was also heavy water logging in that area.

Second maximum atmospheric precipitation in the month of May since 1901

Indian Metrological Department (IMD) suggested that this was the second shower of the day for the capital since 1901 in the month of May in the month. As per separate information made available by flight sharing website Flightradar24.com, greater than 500 flights were impacted. The operators of the Airport, DIAL informed through a social media update that some flights were cancelled because of bad weather at 5:20 am. DIAL further confirmed through X at 7:25am that the thunderstorm is no longer active but still some flights were impacted due to high winds.Give advice from Dial

The airport operator issued multiple X updates during the day detailing the blockades of roads in the vicinity of the airport and urged passengers to consider using other means of transport like the Delhi Metro to eliminate delays. As per X post by Dial at 8.55 PM, The airport is fully functional, and operational at the moment However some flight movements might be impacted due to weather. Air traffic delays due to heavy rain and thunderstorms in Delhi this morning. IndiGo issued a statement on X at 2.49 PM which cited that their scheduled flights have been affected and are undergoing delays.

SpiceJet gives statements as well

Tata Group’s Air India also surveyed however stated that the operations are affected in mid parts of North India due to weather. The Airline said on X at 5.51 AM that Some of our flights to and from New Delhi are experiencing delays and cancellations, and this has a cascading effect on the entire network. We will do everything possible to reduce the impact of these disruptions. Bad weather has also had a major impact on the Air Traffic Control ATC) in Delhi which has caused heavy delays for SpiceJet.

Every flight’s associated departures and arrivals could potentially undergo some changes. The airline made this statement via their X account at 10:09 am. Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) is the busiest and largest airport in the country and processes roughly 1300 flights every day.
