Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has firmly stated that there is "no scope for any politicking" concerning the impeachment motion notice recently submitted against Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Varma. Reacting to the notice filed by senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal, Rijiju underscored that judicial impeachment is a "very serious constitutional matter" that must be handled with utmost gravity.
Rijiju emphasized that a specific constitutional process governs such motions. The notice, he explained, will first be examined by the Rajya Sabha Chairman, who will then decide whether to admit it. "There is a process, the Chairman will apply his mind," Rijiju stated, indicating that public discussion before this crucial step is premature.
The Minister also appeared to subtly criticize the public disclosure of the motion before the Chairman's consideration, suggesting that such sensitive matters should not be turned into subjects of political debate. He stressed that allegations against a judge and the subsequent impeachment proceedings are not to be taken lightly or used for political maneuvering. The focus, according to Rijiju, must remain on adhering strictly to the constitutional procedures designed to address such grave allegations.
This development brings the process of judicial accountability into sharp focus, with the Minister responsible for Parliamentary Affairs calling for adherence to protocol and a depoliticized approach.
