Rani Mukerji will be reprising her role as police officer Shivani Shivaji Roy in the upcoming action thriller, Mardaani 3, set to release on February 27, 2026. The film will be released by the well-known Yash Raj Films. The release has been purposely planned to take place just before the Holi festival.
The studio also released a first look poster for the movie on social media which was met with positive response. The post read:
“New threatens new director but same fierce heroine in the movie everyone has been waiting for. Good will fight evil this Holi. On Feb 27 2026, Shivani Shivaji Roy will be back on screen. #RaniMukerji @abhiraj88 Aagl ki Shri Satyaji Ki Jai!! #Mardaani3 sahi waqt pe aa gya manipul pa gaadi.”
The movie comes with a fresh set of directors and Mukerji is said to be “dark, deadly, and brutal” which means it comes with a lot of head(ing) action, a gripping narrative, as well as a lot of emotions.
A Franchise That Redefined the Female-Led Action Genre
The Mardaani franchise was and still is infamously appreciated for Mukerji's hands-on performance and the franchise's storytelling. It surely has one of the few hindi action franchises led by a female which were successful.
Kareena Mukerji's last appearance was in the drama Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway released in 2023, which her fans saw as an emotionally deep performance. Now, in Mardaani 3, she is expected to showcase the Mardaani fierce resilience grit that defines her character.
