On August 19, on the day of Raksha Bandhan, companies that deliver goods within a few minutes, i.e. quick commerce companies, made a tremendous presence in terms of sales. Instead of going to post offices to shop, the country turned to quick and hassle-free delivery. According to a PTI report, the quick commerce platform made record sales on Raksha Bandhan. Blinkit, which has about a 40 percent share in the quick commerce market, sells about 700 rakhis every minute. The CEO of Blinkit wrote a post expressing his happiness on the social media platform.

Highest number of orders ever in a day

Blinkit CEO and co-founder Albinder Dhindsa wrote on X – We crossed the highest ever orders in a day on Blinkit. We also achieved the highest OPM (orders per minute), GMV, chocolate sales, and most other metrics today! And at our peak – we achieved 693 RPM (rakhis per minute). Zomato-owned Blinkit on Saturday announced that it will take international orders on Blinkit till August 19.

Dhindsa announced that people living abroad can now place an order on Blinkit to send rakhis and gifts to their siblings in India and we will deliver in 10 minutes! Countries from where you can order are – the USA, Canada, Netherlands, Germany, France, and Japan.

Zepto also sold a lot

Zepto, which raised USD 665 million (roughly Rs. 5,560 crores) in its latest funding round in June, also reported a surge in festive sales, valuing the firm at USD 3.6 billion. The Mumbai-based firm introduced ‘Festival Envelopes’, a free add-on to Zepto Orders, with prizes worth Rs 5 crore. Zepto CEO and co-founder Adit Palicha wrote on LinkedIn: We’ve just crossed 1 million envelopes – what a crazy way to end a Sunday night! This is also an all-time high in terms of orders, sales, and first-time buyers. The team and I couldn’t be more grateful to our customers.

Instamart also joined the celebration

Instant, the instant commercial arm of food-delivery platform Swiggy, also joined the festivities as it more than doubled its rakhi sales compared to last year. “Rakshabandhan celebrations have kicked off in full swing – we are getting more orders per minute (OPM) than our peak day, which in itself is a historic high,” Phani Kishangarh A, head of Instamart, wrote on X. The platform also witnessed a massive 646 percent rise in perfume orders on Rakshabandhan, making it the most popular rakhi gift after chocolates. The real joy is that today we are becoming an integral part of the lives of millions of customers as they celebrate Rakshabandhan.
