Rajinikanth's upcoming film "Coolie" is creating a massive buzz at the box office even before its release, with advance bookings smashing records. The film has already garnered over Rs 51 crore in worldwide pre-sales for its opening day, with about Rs 14 crore coming from the domestic Indian market alone. Overall, "Coolie" is on track to cross Rs 100 crore in global opening day business, marking a historic milestone for Tamil cinema.
The Tamil version leads the charge domestically, having sold approximately 6.6 lakh tickets worth Rs 13.80 crore. Across all versions combined, "Coolie" has sold around 6.8 lakh tickets. Such phenomenal pre-sale success signals that the film is set to have one of the biggest worldwide openings for an Indian movie and could become the highest opener ever for a Tamil film.
Set to hit theaters on August 14, 2025, "Coolie" boasts a star-studded cast including Shruti Haasan, Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Sathyaraj, and Soubin Shahir. It will compete at the box office with "War 2," which features Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, "Coolie" is gearing up for a grand Independence Day weekend release, promising a cinematic celebration bolstered by its record-breaking advance booking success.
