Udaipur MP Mannalal Rawat Demands Uniform National Policy For Dilapidated Government Buildings In Lok Sabha
Raising critical public safety concerns in Parliament, Udaipur Member of Parliament Dr. Mannalal Rawat urged the Central Government to establish a comprehensive, nationwide policy for identifying, demolishing, and rebuilding dilapidated public infrastructure. Speaking in the Lok Sabha under Rule 377, MP Rawat pointed out that India currently lacks a standardized Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to evaluate structural integrity and manage aging state property. This legislative vacuum leads to procedural delays, bureaucratic bottlenecks, and severe safety hazards for citizens residing near decaying government assets.
Monsoon Collapses And Anti-Social Hazards: MP Rawat Highlights Severe Risks In Rural And Tribal Belts
Elaborating on the regional and national impacts, MP Rawat emphasized that hundreds of schools, primary health centers, Anganwadi facilities, government staff quarters, and departmental offices across various states are in advanced states of ruin. The structural vulnerability of these crumbling edifices surges dramatically during monsoon seasons, leading to fatal building collapses, loss of life, and property destruction. Furthermore, in rural and tribal districts like Udaipur, abandoned structures frequently transform into dangerous hideouts for anti-social elements, stray animals, and venomous reptiles, directly threatening public safety and community well-being.
National Safety Audits And Accountable Demolition Framework Requested Under Central Rules
To resolve the widespread issue systematically, Dr. Rawat requested the Union Government to mandate binding, accountability-based national guidelines. His proposed framework calls for mandatory structural safety audits across all government properties, strict timelines for demolishing declared hazardous structures, guaranteed central financial allocations for timely reconstruction, and efficient land usage strategies. Establishing an integrated national SOP will protect public life, secure government land assets, and streamline modern public infrastructure deployment across rural and urban India.
