Monsoon's pace decelerates, normal rainfall in 103 districts only, it may take 7-8 days to reach Mumbai

Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : Slow monsoon across the country is causing heatwaves and water scarcity in various states while some parts of the country have received some respite in form of thunderstorms and rain. According to weather agency Skymet Weather, monsoon has been stalled over the west coast since past few days and it may take over a week to reach Mumbai.

This has been due to absence of a strong low pressure area or a depression in the Bay of Bengal and it has resulted in normal rainfall in only 103 districts out of a total of 723. After making an entry into Kerala, monsoon has been recorded in 19 states now.

Weather conditions in many states in the country

Despite the stalled monsoon over some parts, weather in various states in the country has changed. A yellow alert for thunderstorms and rain has been issued for 23 districts of Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Bharatpur and Kota, and some areas in the state recorded rain up to 2 inches in last 24 hours. Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are also predicted for 8 districts of Madhya Pradesh which include Raisen, Chhindwara and Gwalior.
While a rain warning has been issued for 26 districts of Bihar which includes Bhagalpur and Purnia, cities including the state capital Patna registered temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius yesterday. Thunderstorms with strong winds in Delhi-NCR on Tuesday, had a steep dip in maximum temperatures of the city making it the coldest day of the month in June.

Severe heatwave in these states

However, 10 states across the country are reeling under severe heatwaves. Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh recorded the hottest temperature at 43 degrees Celsius while many other cities across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar recorded maximum temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.

Rain possible in these states on June 18-19

The Meteorological department has forecast heavy rains and thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds of 50 to 70 km/h in Eastern and North-Eastern states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam and West Bengal on June 18-19, along with torrential showers in states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
