Filing a False FIR in Rajasthan? You Could Face Prison; 75 Convicted in Just One Month
In a landmark move to restore the integrity of the judicial process, the Rajasthan Police has launched a rigorous crackdown on individuals who file fabricated complaints to harass others. Following direct mandates from Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Kumar Sharma, the state police force has intensified its prosecution efforts against those misusing the law. The results are already being felt across the state, with courts handing down convictions to 75 individuals for filing malicious and false FIRs between June 1 and June 28, 2026.
Strict Judicial Action Against Malicious Complaints
The crackdown is not limited to mere warnings. Additional Director General of Police (Crime) Vipin Kumar Pandey confirmed that in addition to the 75 convictions, courts have taken formal cognizance of a staggering 1,870 other cases where complainants are now facing active prosecution for perjury and filing false reports. These legal actions often result in heavy fines and prison sentences, sending a clear message that the police force and the judiciary will no longer tolerate the weaponization of the criminal justice system to settle personal scores.
Combating the Culture of False Accusations
For years, the Rajasthan Police has battled a trend where individuals manufacture stories—ranging from fake rape allegations to fabricated robberies—to gain an upper hand in land disputes, financial conflicts, or personal vendettas. These false FIRs serve a dual harm: they cause immense trauma and legal harassment to innocent victims, while simultaneously draining critical police resources that should be reserved for genuine criminal investigations. By aggressively pushing these cases through the courts, the authorities are reclaiming the time needed to serve real victims of crime.
Nagaur and Hanumangarh Lead the Prosecution Drive
The data highlights specific hotspots where this anti-fraud drive is most active. Nagaur district has emerged at the forefront of this initiative, with local courts taking cognizance of 292 cases in June alone, followed closely by Jaipur Rural (247), Alwar (212), and Jaipur South (139). On the conviction front, Hanumangarh police have been particularly successful, securing penalties in 18 cases, followed by Pratapgarh and Jaipur Rural. Police headquarters has issued a stern warning: any person found fabricating evidence or misleading the police will face a swift, intensive trial, ensuring that the law serves justice rather than personal agendas.
