Railway Minister Vaishnaw stated on Friday that someone who bought a physical ticket from the ticket counter is able to cancel it online through the IRCTC website or mobile application 139, however, these people will have to go to the reservation centre to get the money back. The issue concerned was raised by BJP MP Medha Vishram Kulkarni who, in distinction to etickets, wanted to know if the passengers who had bought waiting tickets over the counter were expected to show up at the station prior to the train leaving in order to cancel the ticket.
“Waitlisted PRS counter ticket shall be cancelled across the reservation counter on surrendering of the original PRS counter ticket as per time limit prescribed in Railway Passengers (Cancellation of Tickets and Refund of Fares) Rules 2015”, Vaishnaw said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. “In normal circumstances cancellation of ticket at PRS counter can also be done via the website of IRCTC or the 139 number within the time limit set in the Railway Passengers (Cancellation of Tickets and Refund of Fares) Rules 2015 and the amount of refund can be obtained after giving out the original ticket at the reservation counters as per guidelines issued from time to time,” he added.
