A major fire broke out at a nylon manufacturing unit in the industrial hub of Surat, Gujarat, sending plumes of thick black smoke visible from kilometers away. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of today, has triggered a massive emergency response, with multiple fire tenders rushed to the spot to prevent the flames from spreading to adjacent industrial structures.

Intense Blaze at the Nylon Unit

The fire started in a factory located in one of Surat’s densely packed industrial clusters. Due to the highly inflammable nature of nylon and the chemicals used in its processing, the fire spread with alarming speed. Within minutes, a significant portion of the facility was engulfed. Fire department officials have declared it a "major call," mobilizing specialized equipment to combat the chemical-fueled inferno.

Firefighting Operations and Challenges

Over a dozen fire engines from various stations across Surat are currently on the scene. Firefighters are facing significant challenges due to the intense heat and toxic fumes released by the burning synthetic material. Cooling operations are being carried out simultaneously to ensure that the structural integrity of the building remains intact and that the fire does not leap to neighboring warehouses and textile units.

Safety and Evacuation Measures

As a precautionary measure, the local administration has cordoned off the area, and electricity supply to the immediate vicinity has been disconnected. Workers who were present in the early shift were reportedly evacuated in time, and so far, no casualties or major injuries have been officially confirmed. Emergency medical teams and ambulances remain stationed nearby as a standard safety protocol.

Investigation into the Cause

While the primary focus remains on dousing the flames completely, preliminary assessments suggest a potential short circuit or a chemical reaction as the likely cause of the spark. A formal investigation by the Fire Safety Department and local police will be initiated once the site is declared safe. This incident has once again raised concerns regarding fire safety audits and the storage of volatile materials in the city's busy industrial zones.
