In a significant move that is being talked about across the country, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has finally rolled out the much-awaited financial schemes for women. Unveiled during the state budget, the highlight is the 'Mukh Mantri Mawan Dhian Satikar Yojna', which aims to put money directly into the hands of those who run our homes.
The Direct Cash Benefit: What’s in it for you? The scheme is straightforward: if you are a woman in Punjab over the age of 18, the government is looking to support you.
General Category Women: Will receive ₹1,000 every month.
Scheduled Caste (SC) Women: Will receive ₹1,500 every month.
What makes this special is its reach. Unlike many other states where such benefits are limited to a small percentage of the population, Punjab’s plan is designed to cover nearly 97% of all adult women. It’s not just about the money; it’s about the dignity of not having to ask anyone for small personal expenses—whether it’s for a daughter’s college books or a grandmother wanting to buy a gift for her grandkids.
A Long List of Achievements Beyond the monthly stipend, CM Mann also highlighted several structural changes his government has made to empower women:
33% Reservation in Jobs: The government has ensured that women have a fair share in the 65,000+ new government jobs created.
Health First: Under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, families now get up to ₹10 lakh in cashless health insurance, a huge relief for women who usually manage the household's health crises.
Meri Rasoi Scheme: To fight inflation, 40 lakh families are receiving essential kitchen supplies like sugar, pulses, and oil for free.
Education Revolution: The "Sikhya Kranti 2.0" is focusing on making government schools world-class, ensuring that a girl’s education isn’t compromised due to lack of funds.
Why This Matters CM Mann’s message is clear: "Freebies" don't solve poverty, but empowerment does. By combining financial aid with better schools, free electricity (600 units), and free bus travel, the government is trying to reduce the daily financial burden on women.
The registration for these schemes is set to begin on a "war footing" from Baisakhi (April 13), with special camps being organized so that every eligible sister and mother can sign up without any hassle.
