Launching a scathing offensive against the persistent narcotics crisis plaguing the border state, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan declared in Bathinda that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in Punjab, the drug menace will be completely wiped out within six months. Commencing the fourth phase of the party's state-wide "Drug-Free Punjab Yatra" on Monday, the senior leader paid obeisance at the revered Takht Sri Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo before addressing an energized public gathering at the local Dana Mandi. Chouhan underscored that drug addiction has deeply fractured household stability across Punjab, derailed the aspirations of its youth, and created an acute social crisis that demands an uncompromising, mission-mode decisive battle rather than passive political rhetoric.

Reinforcing his commitment to swift administrative action, the Union Minister cited the governance track record of BJP-led state administrations, pointing out how decisive policing and zero-tolerance policies resolved chronic security challenges elsewhere in the country. Chouhan stated that just as terrorism was decisively neutralized in Uttar Pradesh, Naxalism was systematically uprooted in Jharkhand, and entrenched dacoity networks were entirely dismantled in Madhya Pradesh, a similarly rigorous framework would be deployed to crush the cross-border and local drug trade in Punjab. He reiterated that the saffron party does not treat the anti-narcotics crusade as mere electoral posturing, but rather as an essential moral and existential campaign dedicated to rescuing future generations and restoring community prosperity across the state.

Grassroots Mobilization: Transforming Yatra into a Mass Movement with Affected Families

Emphasizing that institutional enforcement alone cannot succeed in isolation without grassroots social backing, Chouhan issued an earnest appeal urging all sections of civil society—including village elders, youth groups, and affected families—to actively mobilize against the narcotics network. During his visit to Talwandi Sabo, the Union Minister personally interacted with families grieving the consequences of substance abuse, assuring them that their struggles remain central to the campaign's mission.
