Bathinda Government Hospital OPD Services to Remain Suspended on August 27 Following PCMS Association Decision

In response to a statewide protest call issued by the Punjab State Ministerial Service Union (PSMSU) and Sanjha Mulazim Manch, the Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS) Association has announced that outpatient department (OPD) services across government hospitals will remain completely suspended for a day on August 27, 2026.
Dr. Jarup Singh, President of the PCMS Association in Bathinda, formally communicated the decision via an official letter sent to the Director of Health Services, Health and Family Welfare Department, Punjab. The association's leadership noted that district-level polls conducted across the state revealed unanimous support among the PCMS cadre for the upcoming demonstration.
Demands Backed by the Medical Cadre
The PCMS Association's decision stems from solidarity with employees advocating for several long-standing fiscal and administrative reforms. Key demands driving the protest include:
Implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS)
Timely release of pending Dearness Allowance (DA) installments and arrears
Rectification and removal of anomalies tied to the Seventh Pay Commission
Cessation of contract, ad-hoc, and outsourced recruitment practices in public sectors
Services Affected vs. Essential Services Maintained
During the one-day shutdown, regular outpatient consultations and elective surgeries will not be performed. However, to ensure public welfare and handle critical health emergencies, vital medical departments will remain fully operational.
Emergency care, maternal and child health (MCH) services, emergency surgeries, indoor patient admissions, medico-legal assessments, post-mortem procedures, and forensic medical examinations will continue without interruption. While expressing hope that the state government will address these legitimate employee demands constructively, medical associations remain firm on their solidarity action for August 27.
