February 11: The girl’s health started failing…
Because her health deteriorated, her father came the next day and took her home. After her health improved, he left her back at the hostel on February 23. At 722 on Wednesday, Priti called her father asking him to come pick her up and requesting that he bring a medical certificate with him.
His father was en route to the medical office to collect the certificate when the hostel called him to inform him that Priti had taken her life.
Discussed with the hostel’s staff
Inspector Rohit Tiwari of Kotwali, along with some officers, arrived there and spoke with specific officials from the hostel and after that, the student who occupied the room with her. She stated that five students occupied that room. Three students had visited the temple to offer prayers on the day of Mahashivratri. She was present in the room. Around 10 Am, Preeti informed the student that she was going to take a shower and apply medicine afterwards, so she needed to step outside for some time. While she went to the terrace. After about 15 minutes, when she returned, the door was locked from the inside. When she started banging on the door, there was no sound from inside the room.
Calling did not elicit any response
Preeti also did not take notice, even after being called upon. She in turn said this to the hostel staff and when the staff peered through the window, they saw her corpse suspended from the ceiling fan by a nylon string.
Another thing she said was that one of the girls named Preeti has been unwell for some time now, and was mentally breaking down due to some illness she had. Then, the police called their forensics team and eventually the door was opened, and it was later found that a suicide note had been left on the table. The police questioned the family members, however none of them seemed to have any explanations for the suicide. They also did not have an explanation on what disease the daughter suffered from.
She had a condition relating to her ears.
According to ACP Kotwali Manoj Singh the student was previously able to hear from one of her ears, however, now she seems to be suffering from hearing loss in the other ear as well. This must have been distressing for her, thus she decided to take her own life. The investigation is still ongoing. A suicide note was found in her room, which experts will have to analyze in order to determine whether or not it was written by Preeti.
The state of the parents was heartbreaking.
Right after Preeti's suicide news broke out, her parents went straight to the postmortem side. Her father, when questioned, stated he has four children. His eldest one is a married daughter.
Preeti was the second one, followed by sons Ankit and Ashish. She always appeared fine, but on the morning that she noticed them in distress, she instructed them to obtain a medical certificate. Not long afterward, they were made aware that their daughter had ended her life.
The mother reflects on the fact that she had great hopes and expectations from her daughter. She was good at her studies and managed to get a decent job, and the mother thought that after suffering through poverty her entire life, she would be delighted in her retirement, but fate had other plans. “She should have learned to battle against poverty and most of the trying situations and never be scared, ” her mother said, adding that she often cowered in the face of challenging situations.
Here is the reason for trouble according to her suicide note:
Dear Mom and Dad, I seek your forgiveness. I had wished to become a doctor one day, but alas, my dream was never fulfilled, I suffer from severe ear problems. I am unable to hear and itches in every inch of my skin. Because of these issues, I feel as though I am going to have to take my own life.
