Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : This Sunday, Pope Leo XIV will officiate the global Catholic Church during a public Mass at St. Peter's Square, where he will formally be recognized as the Pope. European royalty and government heads are expected to attend the event alongside tens of thousands of other attendees.
He will have his first public showing in the white popemobile at 10:00 A.M local time (0800 GMT) and make history as the first U.S. born Pope at 69, who also is the first from Peru, boasting citizenship from there. Before he served as a Pope, he has been a cardinal for two years and worked as a missionary in Peru.
After a short conclave, Pope Leo XIV was elected on the 8th of May, succeeding Pope Francis who passed away on the 21st of April. Francis served for 12 years and was known for his diverse programs aimed at the impoverished for the church and managing internal relations with the more conservative followers.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are expected to attend along with other Catholics. Spanish Ukraine President Zelenskyy is also expected to attend with several Australian, German, Canadian, Italian, Israeli, Nigerian, and Peruvian delegates alongside the European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, and King Felipe of Spain accompanied with Queen Letizia alongside other European royals are also expected to attend.
Keeping in line with his statement post election, Pope Leo XIV has focused on peace as a main thesis. He has been on record saying the usual catholic phrases, “Peace be with you all,” and later assuring eastern Catholic Church representatives claiming he will actively engage in mediating world conflicts while also claiming wars are never a determinable constant.
He will celebrate Mass with various heads like Latin, Italian, Greek, Portuguese, French, Arabic, Polish, and Chinese expanding the Universality of the Church and praying in several languages.
BC Leo will become the 13th Pope that participates in the ceremony where he receives the Fisherman’s Ring, a gold signet ring illustrating St. Peter, exclusive to each pope which will be shattered after death showcasing the end of his rein alongside the papal pallium, a woolen suit showcasing his role as the shepard as tokens of authority bestowed upon him.
